Egg cups – a poem

Egg cups

It took hours to select

in Christmas eve rush

the simple porcelain cups:

good egg

bad egg

As paper tore apart

your smile shattered,

my attempt to please

splintered into folly.

A clumsy child

in a china shop

falls.

Ruptures the fault lines.

You see

trying so hard to please

I completely forgot

you do not like eggs.
