Rise – a poem

Rise

I wake

as the sun begins its slow leap in the East

a warm stretch over the world

reminders; to do’s

ping at me

today

I curl back into my soft cave

where things I will not do

hang

like fruitless bats off the walls

till I sleep

and they drift from the cave

hungry

did the whole day pass?

the sun lands on its feet in the West

as the street out my window

bubbles

with the briefcases’ migration home.

I have not moved.
